Pain in the neck could be due to simple causes like muscle spasm/muscle stiffness or more significant causes like slipped disc, neck joint degeneration, or bony outgrowths. Causes could be bad posture, post-accident (especially rear end collision), nerve compression, joints wear and tear and certain disease like fibromyalgia, rheumatoid arthritis.
Treatment is related to the specific cause of neck pain. Initial treatment includes nerve medicine, muscle relaxant, rest, and physiotherapy. If these initial measures do not help, then interventional treatment could help. These include trigger point injections, nerve blocks, epidural injection, Radiofrequency ablation (RFA).
Since the interventional treatment is done under image guidance like C arm(X-ray) or ultrasound, these procedures are safe and are effective for long term.
